The soldier figures will keep a silent vigil throughout the year, taking in all seasons of the garden, which is open to everyone wanting to spend a few moments in calm remembrance.
Silent Soldiers are appearing across the country and can be fixed to buildings and walls and will appear, as the troops did between 1914 and 1918, when returning home ‘silently’. They can be placed on buildings, in gardens and fields and on roundabouts.
They are available to individuals (£100) and companies (£250 including logo) from the Royal British Legion with all profits going to the Poppy Appeal.
The ‘War to End All Wars’ marks the 100th anniversary of the First World War, which began on 28 July 1914 and lasted until 11 November 1918. By the time the guns fell silent, 10-million soldiers were dead and WWI had changed the world forever.
