Autism Wessex has been selected as one of the causes to benefit from the Community Fund after being nominated earlier this year. There are 4 local causes in each area and each will be awarded funding.
Emily Pike, corporate partnerships officer said “Autism Wessex is hoping to be the charity with the most votes and receive £3000 so we are calling out to the local community to please vote for us. If we are lucky enough to be awarded the £3000 we will use it for our advocacy services in the local area.”
Autism is a lifelong condition affecting one out of 100 people, which, when you include family members means autism touches over 2,000,000 people in the UK every day. In Dorset alone it is estimated there are over 7500 people with autism.
Emily continues “The Advocacy and Advice service is a lifeline to many parents especially following diagnosis when families are often under immense strain. The service offers valuable support and advice and enquiries to the service are increasing year on year. We need to fundraise to be able to continue offering the growing number of people support and advice when they need it.”
