Twenty Poole lifeboat volunteer crew members will be recognised for their contribution to frontline emergency service when they are presented with the Diamond Jubilee Medal. The Queen will be represented by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset, Mrs Anthony Pitt-Rivers.
Also in attendance will be Her Worshipful the Mayor of Poole and Consort, Cllr Mrs Carol Evans and Mr Bryan Evans, Sheriff of Poole, Cllr Philip Eades and Miss Helen McDavid
The ceremony pays tribute to local volunteers from the busiest RNLI lifeboat stations on the UK coastline, who have shown dedication and commitment in responding to marine emergencies at any time of the day or night, sometimes in atrocious weather conditions to rescue those in distress at sea.
It is believed to be the largest number of ‘crown’ medals ever to be presented at a lifeboat station at the same time. The volunteer crewmembers and launching authorities will be attending with their families to enjoy this memorable and well-deserved moment.
