Arriving this Sunday, Bournemouth’s first Metropole Market will soon be taking over the length of Holdenhurst Road in Lansdowne. With an eclectic mix of trade stalls, live entertainment and music, the event aims to attract over five thousand visitors, local residents and families to Lansdowne for the first of its four 2017 markets.
Closed for the day of the market, the road between St Paul’s Roundabout and Lansdowne Roundabout will be lined with an array of traders. Stalls will include freshly baked goods from Rucettes Sucree’s 1859, street food from The House Grille, local produce from Ali’s Homemade Produce and vegan options from Tattiebogle Vegan Food. Providing some of the drinks offering, the Tack N Tipple Bar will be present with many of Lansdowne’s resident businesses also taking part.
Alongside, the Metropole Market will feature a wide range of live music and entertainment. This will range from Xander Allen, lead singer of Bournemouth based Indie-rock band, Xander & the Keys, renowned and unique ukulele three-piece ‘The Mother Ukers’, and past ‘The Voice’ contestant Si Genaro. Other local musicians will include Jonny Phillips, Lewis Jordan Brown, Shannon White, Krista Green, the Mambossa Latin band, Miss Annie, Arthur Young and Real Vintage.
Taking place between 10am and 5pm, visitors may catch street performers and entertainers such as Pantheatrix and Street Comedy. Catering for families, there will be a dedicated Kids’ Zone with a ceramic art workshop and face painter, plus the puppeteer Mr Merlin and Okey Dokey the Dragon and Jamie Jigsaw children’s entertainer. If that isn’t enough, marketgoers can watch a live spray painting art demonstration from Paintshop Studio, see talented jugglers and gaze at a theatrical stilt walker. They may also visit a group of WWII re-enactors who will be camped out with several vintage military vehicles on display.
Lyn Turnball, co-event organiser and co-Owner of Mexigo Burrito Bar, said, “After months of planning and preparation, the Metropole Market is finally here! We can promise a fun day out for all the family and can’t wait to welcome a whole host of people into Lansdowne on Sunday. With the support of our local business community, this is set to be a great kick-start to our series of monthly markets.’’
The Metropole Market is being supported by the Town Centre BID, Laceys Solicitors, Yellow Buses and Wave 105. It will take place on the last Sunday of each month with the next ‘Day of the Dead’ themed market taking place on 29 October.
