Dorset artist’s sculpture to be auctioned in New York

The Dorset artist who made headlines with her sculpture of tragic singer Amy Winehouse last year has unveiled her latest work, a sculptured portrait of Marilyn Monroe. Pokesdown-based Linda Joyce revealed the new work at a reception at the town’s Terrace Café, Bournemouth.
Like Amy, Marilyn died young. The American actress was found dead from a barbiturate overdose in 1962. She was just 36-years-old.

Cycling round the world in 48 hours

The Mayor of Verwood, Cllr Pat Morrow was on hand to start a round the world cycle ride at her local Morrisons today (22 August).
The event is being held at Morrisons stores throughout the South West and funds raised will go to the national cancer care charity, Sue Ryder.
To complete the challenge in 48 hours, each store needs to clock up around 230 miles.

Volunteers help spruce up Wimborne Minster Church

Young volunteers from around the world have helped give Wimborne Minster a deep clean in a weeklong heritage camp. The project, which is organised by Community Service Volunteers (CSV), is part of a nationwide initiative that run by the national volunteering charity.
